For Maths Fearing Students

Friends, Scholars, And Fellow-Sufferers, Lend Me Your Ears,
I Come To Criticize Mathematics, Not To Praise It.
The Evils That Former Geniuses Invented, Lives After Them;
The Good Is Lost In The Sands of Time; So It Is With Mathematics.
The Noble Maths Teachers Have Told You, Mathematics Is Interesting,
If It Were So, I Have Failed to Appreciate It-
And Failing To Appreciate, Have Failed In it.

Here, Under The Leave of The Principal And Teachers
For They Are All Honourable People,
Come I To Speak Of The Ordeal Of Mathematics.
Maths Is Complicating, Nauseating, And Frightening To Me
But Our Maths Teachers Say, “It Is Interesting And Easy”
And They Are Honourable Men.

Many A Time we Are Given Sums
Whose Complexities Did Leave Us Reeling,
Does This Make It Interesting?
When The Poor Students Failed,
The Maths Teachers Routed And Roared.
Mathematics Should Be Made Easier Or Abolished
Yet The Maths Teachers Say “It Is Easy!”
And They Are All Capable Men.

You Have All Observed During The Year,
As The Maths Teachers Walk Into The Class,
The Students Sweat And Swoon.
Is It Necessary?
Yet Our Maths Teachers Say It Is Necessary,
And Sure, They Are Capable Men.

I Speak Not To Disprove What These Teachers Say;
But Here I Am To Speak What I Do Know.
You All Did Try To Pass Mathematics, But Without Success.
Isn’t That What Causes To Hate Schooling?
O’ Education! Where Is The Justification?
Have All Educationists Lost Their Reason?
Bear With Me, I Must Stop Now;
My Fear for Mathematics Allows Me To Go No Further.
I Must Pause Till Reason Come Back To Our Educators.

Till Yesterday, We Bore The Rigours Of Maths Silently
But Now We Must Rethink Our Goals.
It Is Not That We Need To Do Away With Mathematics,
But Just Make It More Bearable.
O’ Friends, If I Were To Stir You Up Against Mathematics
I Should Do The School Wrong And The Maths Teachers Wrong
Who You All Know Are Capable Men.
I Will Not Do Them Wrong, I Rather Choose To Wrong The System,To Wrong myself And You;
Than To Wrong such Honourable Men.

LIFE!!!!!

   Ramesh was a person who led a life which everyone would envy. He had everything one could ever dream of. He had education success money and the element of fun all in his life. Ramesh grew up while learning to enjoy life at the fullest. He was a boy who took part in all co-curricular activities while at school and college. This could not hamper his results because just before the exams he burned the midnight oil and studied day and night. With all this hardwork he got himself a job which promised him a handsome sum at the end of every month.

   Suddenly one day he had a severe headache. He did not pay much attention to it. The pain never went away. After a week of the continuous pain he at last went to see a doctor. The doctor’s reports were shocking to say the least. Ramesh was told that he had a malignant brain tumor which could not be operated now. It was too late!!! He was told that he only had a mere seventy-two hours to live. Ramesh was shocked to say the least. He was gasping for words. He just did not know what to say. Being an introvert he did not tell anyone this “secret”.

  He did not waste his time going to work anymore. He spent the mornings being lazy and spending time with his relatives and loved ones. In the evenings he went out partying. His relatives were shocked at this sudden change in Ramesh’s lifestyle. He just told them, “Wait for sometime and u shall get to know the reason for the change!” He spent of money on buying things he craved for. He blew up all his credit card balance in one afternoon at one of the sprawling shopping malls. Simply putting it he was being MAD!!!! Thankfully though he did all this madness only for the first two days. The last day he got up early in the morning and spend the whole day at Ragini’s house. Ragini according to Ramesh’s relatives was just a friend. Ramesh passed away the next morning,

  After he died two pieces of paper were found in his pocket which were being rampaged in search of a suicide note. One had a beautiful quote written on it which said:-
We meet to create memories
We part to preserve them.”

The other one said:-

Dearest Ragini,
                        I am very sorry I had to die before we got married which was just a week away but you know what? The show must go on. Please start life afresh. Please don’t drown yourself in my memories. I want to see you happy from wherever I am. Bye!!

                                                                                                                                                                                                           From,

                                                                                Your loved one,

                                                                                                              Ramesh.

If-Only-She

Ritu and Arya were as they say childhood sweethearts. They had been dating ever since they were sixteen year olds(rather young). They were out to prove to the world that high school crushes do last and the balance between the relationship(or as some people put it ‘the wants of the body’) and studies can be achieved.

Ritu and Arya succeeded as they passed out school, finished college, got more than respectable jobs. They were twenty-six year olds when they got married. At that time they were the usual happy, chirpy, cheerful newlywed couple. With time Arya and Ritu started developing physical ailments. Arya had a cardiac arrest as early as when he was just twenty-nine years old and was a patient of hypertension.

Then when they were both well settled in life they wanted to start a family. Ritu’s first suggestion was to adopt. Arya said he did not mind adopting but before adopting he wanted a child of their own. Ritu agreed and she was soon pregnant. Ritu wanted to be one of those ‘to-be-mums’ who work for most of the nine months of pregnancy. She went to work, did her household chores. She led an ‘almost perfect life’. As the D-day drew closer the only thing she complained was that she had forgotten how her feet looked because she had not been able to see them for a very long time. As the day drew even closer she appeared to be disturbed but very evidently tried to suppress her feelings in front of Arya.

Finally, the day came and the delivery was supposed to happen at 8:30 the following morning. That day Arya visited almost all temples of Kolkata praying for the well being of his wife and to-be-born child and for the successful completion of the operation.

The time arrived. Ritu was taken into the operation theatre. Clinically Ritu seemed to be perfect for the operation. The operation was performed.

The surgeon came out and gave Arya the worst possible news. They could not save the baby. Arya went berserk. He rushed out of the hospital crying out loud. He cursed all the gods and goddesses. He ran out into the open streets crying, almost got knocked down by cars zooming past. Everything seemed to be a blurred image for Arya. All his dreams of being a good father(unlike his very own) were shattered all at once. He could not take it anymore …. He had a cardiac failure in one of the busiest streets of the city. He lay there unattended and then passed away right there.

If only she had told him she had fallen down a flight of stairs two weeks back. If only she had told him she did not want to be a mother. If only she……..
